On 07/04/2026, Vietnam National Children’s Hospital successfully organized a scientific workshop on the topic “Probiotics Update 2026: International guidelines and standard dosing in pediatrics,” attracting a large number of physicians and healthcare professionals attending both in person and online. The event served as an important opportunity to update practical knowledge, contributing to strengthening professional capacity in the care and treatment of pediatric patients.

The workshop attracted nearly 600 physicians and healthcare professionals participating in person and via the online platform.
Probiotics are beneficial microorganisms that help treat and prevent intestinal disturbances, particularly when antibiotics are used. Although probiotics are generally considered safe, their use should still be guided by professional advice to ensure effectiveness and avoid undesired effects. In pediatrics, probiotics are increasingly used because children frequently require antibiotics, which can easily disrupt the balance of the gut microbiota.
At the workshop, the program focused on updating the latest information on the adverse effects of antibiotics on the gut microbiota in children, the most recent scientific evidence on probiotics, and guidance on selecting appropriate strains, determining dosing, and making appropriate indications for each pediatric case. Applying this knowledge helps pediatricians provide more effective care, maintain microbiota balance, and improve treatment safety.
The workshop included two highly practical thematic presentations delivered by:
- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Dinh Hoa, PharmD, PhD – Deputy Director, National DI & ADR Center, Hanoi University of Pharmacy, on: “Adverse effects associated with antibiotic use in pediatric patients.”
- Dr. Dang Thuy Ha, MD, PhD – Deputy Head, Department of Gastroenterology, Vietnam National Children’s Hospital, on: “Probiotics for antibiotic-associated diarrhea.”

The presentations not only provided useful knowledge but were also closely linked to clinical practice, facilitating professional discussion and experience sharing among colleagues.

Through the workshop, Vietnam National Children’s Hospital continued to affirm its orientation toward continuous knowledge updating and the improvement of comprehensive care quality for pediatric patients.

Dr. Phan Huu Phuc, MD, Deputy Director of Vietnam National Children’s Hospital and Chair of the workshop, expressed gratitude to the speakers and all participating healthcare professionals, affirming that this was a highly academic, practical, and meaningful scientific workshop that contributes to improving the quality of child healthcare.
