Strengthening Cooperation in Pediatric Neurology: Vietnam National Children’s Hospital Welcomes Experts and Receives Medical Equipment

On February 18, 2025, Vietnam National Children’s Hospital welcomed a delegation of experts from Children’s of Alabama Hospital, led by Prof. Dr. Brandon G. Rocque, Head of the Department of Neurosurgery, and Prof. Dr. Pongkiat Kankirawatana, Head of the Pediatrics Department at Children’s of Alabama Hospital (USA). The visit focused on professional exchanges in the field of pediatric neurology and the donation of medical equipment to the hospital.

The delegation was received by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Minh Dien, Director of Vietnam National Children’s Hospital, along with leaders from relevant departments.

Vietnam National Children’s Hospital and Children’s of Alabama Hospital have established a cooperative relationship since 2016. Over the years, with the professional support and exchange from Children’s of Alabama Hospital, doctors at the Center of Neurology have successfully performed surgeries for many children with complex epilepsy cases. Notably, the implantation of cortical surface electrodes and epileptogenic zone mapping, one of the world’s most advanced techniques, was performed for the first time in Vietnam. Additionally, Children’s of Alabama Hospital has donated modern medical equipment and provided training courses not only in Vietnam but also in the USA for doctors and technicians from Vietnam National Children’s Hospital.

This visit by Children’s of Alabama Hospital is part of the ongoing collaboration program between the two hospitals, aimed at professional exchange and the transfer of advanced technologies for treating pediatric neurological diseases.

During the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Minh Dien, Director of Vietnam National Children’s Hospital, shared: “Vietnam National Children’s Hospital is the leading pediatric hospital in the country. In 2024, the hospital provided safe, high-quality, and specialized medical care for 1.2 million outpatient visits and 127,000 inpatient cases, many of which were complex and severe neurological cases. The collaboration with Children’s of Alabama Hospital not only enhances the quality of treatment but also promotes the development of neurosurgery at Vietnam National Children’s Hospital.”

He also expressed gratitude for the continuous support and valuable contributions from Alabama Children’s Hospital.

Having been involved in collaborative activities with Vietnam National Children’s Hospital for many years, Prof. Dr. Brandon G. Rocque, Head of Neurosurgery at Children’s of Alabama Hospital, expressed his pleasure and appreciation for the long-term partnership between the two institutions. He hopes that both hospitals will continue to work together in applying new techniques and donating medical equipment to support treatment at the Center of Neurology of Vietnam National Children’s Hospital.
