As part of the ongoing collaboration in medical education and research between Vietnam National Children’s Hospital (VNCH) and Teikyo University (Japan), from 13 to 17 July 2026, the Hospital welcomed a delegation of 3 experts and 8 medical students from Teikyo University, led by Prof. Yoshino Yusuke, MD, PhD, Director of the Asia International Institute of Infectious Disease Control, for a study visit and clinical training programme at the Hospital.
This annual exchange programme is organized to strengthen collaboration in medical education, scientific research, and academic exchange between the two institutions.
Vietnam National Children’s Hospital and Teikyo University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2018 to promote the development of high-quality healthcare professionals, scientific research, and academic collaboration. Over the years, both institutions have maintained a productive partnership through student exchange programmes, online training courses, collaborative research, and scholarship opportunities for VNCH physicians to pursue study and research in Japan. This collaboration has not only contributed to enhancing professional capacity but has also strengthened the friendship between Vietnam and Japan in the healthcare sector.
Speaking at the welcome ceremony on 13 July, Prof. Tran Minh Dien, MD, PhD, Director of Vietnam National Children’s Hospital, provided an overview of the Hospital’s development and its outstanding clinical achievements. He highlighted that the Hospital has successfully implemented numerous advanced medical technologies, including liver transplantation, kidney transplantation, next-generation sequencing (NGS), and many state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic techniques in paediatrics. He also introduced Vietnam National Children’s Hospital Facility 2, which officially commenced operations on 1 June 2026 in Ngoc Than Village, Kieu Phu Commune (formerly Quoc Oai District), Hanoi, significantly enhancing the Hospital’s capacity to provide healthcare services for children.
Prof. Tran Minh Dien also shared insights into the epidemiological characteristics of paediatric diseases in Viet Nam, where infectious diseases such as measles, hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD), adenovirus infection, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection remain common among children. These clinical characteristics provide valuable learning opportunities for international medical students by exposing them to a wide spectrum of paediatric cases, thereby enriching their clinical knowledge and practical skills.
Prof. Tran Minh Dien, MD, PhD expressed his hope that the two institutions would continue expanding their collaboration through more advanced education and research programmes in the years ahead.
On behalf of Teikyo University, Prof. Yoshino Yusuke expressed his sincere appreciation to Vietnam National Children’s Hospital for its warm hospitality and excellent support in facilitating the delegation’s clinical training programme. He noted that the highly positive feedback from previous participants has encouraged an increasing number of Teikyo University students to apply for the programme each year. He expressed confidence that this year’s clinical attachment would provide valuable learning experiences while further strengthening the long-standing partnership between the two institutions.

During the one-week programme, the delegation visited and participated in clinical training at several specialized centers and departments, including the Neonatal Center, Heart Center, Respiratory Center, Tropical Disease Center, Stem Cell Center, the Department of Molecular Biology of Infectious Diseases, the Pediatric Intensive Care Department, the Surgical Intensive Care Department, and the Department of Emergency and Poison Control.
Under the guidance of experts from Vietnam National Children’s Hospital, the students were directly exposed to a wide range of representative paediatric cases while updating their knowledge of contemporary diagnostic and treatment approaches in paediatrics.
Experts from Vietnam National Children’s Hospital also shared their clinical expertise and practical experience with the experts and students from Teikyo University.
On 17 July 2026, a closing ceremony and certificate presentation was held. After one week of study and clinical training, the students expressed their appreciation for the Hospital’s professional learning environment, the diversity of clinical cases, and the dedication of its faculty members and healthcare professionals.
