Vietnam National Children’s Hospital welcomes expert delegation from Resource Exchange International (REI-Inc.): strengthening cooperation in Pediatric Intensive Care and Palliative Care

On the morning of 29/04/2026, Vietnam National Children’s Hospital welcomed and collaborated with an expert delegation from Resource Exchange International (REI, Inc.). During the meeting, both sides identified pediatric intensive care and palliative care—two challenging areas in pediatrics—as priority fields for future collaboration.

The delegation included Dr. Mervin Loi V-Ter, MSc, MD—Clinical Assistant Professor at Duke-NUS Medical School and Senior Advisor in Pediatric Intensive Care at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital; Dr. Kok Jun Yi, MD—Senior Resident in Palliative Care; and representatives of REI-Inc. in Viet Nam.

The meeting was held at Vietnam National Children’s Hospital with the participation of international experts.

Strengthening specialized training and workforce development

At the working session, both sides discussed professional activities, particularly in pediatric intensive care and palliative care. Dr. Phan Huu Phuc, MD, Deputy Director of Vietnam National Children’s Hospital, noted that as demand for specialized care continues to rise, the Hospital consistently prioritizes developing a high-quality workforce—especially in intensive care. Advanced specialty training programs are implemented with a strong combination of hands-on clinical practice and experience-building.

Dr. Phan Huu Phuc expressed the Hospital’s wish to expand international collaboration to improve the quality of pediatric care and treatment.

Palliative care, while still relatively new in Viet Nam, is also being developed step by step. The Hospital, therefore, identified these two areas as priorities to be strengthened in the coming period through structured training and enhanced international cooperation.

International perspectives and practical, patient-centered care

Representatives of the REI-Inc. delegation shared their strong impression of the dedication and continuous efforts of the Hospital’s medical staff. They expressed interest in expanding academic exchange and training cooperation in the future.

“We see that patient care here is not only about advanced techniques, but also about attention to small yet meaningful aspects—from nutrition and daily living to psychological support. Despite a heavy workload, the team maintains professional quality and a strong learning spirit,” the delegation shared.

Dr. Mervin Loi V-Ter discussed potential cooperation opportunities with Vietnam National Children’s Hospital.

Based on open and practical discussions, the two sides agreed to promote comprehensive cooperation, focusing on:

  • advanced training programs,
  • specialized workshops, and
  • joint research projects.

In addition, signing cooperation agreements (MoUs)—especially with KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (Singapore)—is expected to provide a strong foundation for sustaining and expanding collaboration effectively in the coming period.

Site visits and clinical exchange

As part of the visit, the delegation toured the Department of Medical Intensive Care and the Cancer Center and held direct discussions with clinicians on clinical practice, treatment approaches, and communication skills when working with patients and families.

The program was carried out effectively, reflecting mutual collaboration and learning, contributing to stronger international partnerships and supporting the Hospital’s continued efforts to improve and reaffirm the quality of child healthcare.
