Assoc. Prof. Tran Minh Dien is the Director of the National Children’s Hospital and the President of the Vietnam Pediatric Association. With over 30 years of experience in the field of pediatrics, he has dedicated to healthcare for Vietnamese children, helping to save many young lives with severe diseases through advanced techniques such as ECMO for newborns and children, stem cell transplantation, organ transplantation, cardiac surgery, and neurosurgery.
On 19th May, 2024, Assoc. Prof. Tran Minh Dien was honored to be one of outstanding individuals and groups at Vietnam Glory Program 2024 with the theme “20 years of provoking Vietnam’s strength”, which held at the Hanoi Opera House.
The program aims to recognize and honor the collectives and individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the country, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor announced at a press conference held in Hanoi on May 14.
The program included Mr. Do Van Chien – Secretary of the Party Central Committee, and Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; Mr. Nguyen Dinh Khang – Member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor; and other members of the Party Central Committee, representatives of ministries.
The achievements of the country’s 40 years of innovation with contributions from groups and individuals was honored in the program. At different levels, typical examples have spread, inspired, and motivated society. The Vietnam Glory Program has become a very important agent promoting patriotic emulation movements and national innovation.
With more than 30 years of dedication to the medical profession and the second home Vietnam National Children’s Hospital, Assoc. Prof. Tran Minh Dien has held many positions from resident doctor to the doctor of the Emergency Resuscitation Department; from Deputy Head of the Department of Surgical Intensive Treatment to Head of the Department of Surgical Intensive Treatment; from Deputy Director to Director of the Hospital. He and his colleagues constantly strived and courageously to overcome all difficulties and challenges to accomplish the mission of protecting and caring for the health of Vietnamese children, leading Vietnam National Children’s Hospital to be one of the top hospitals in Vietnam and Asia.
Under the leadership of Assoc.Prof. Tran Minh Dien, Vietnam National Children’s Hospital has excellently fulfilled its dual mission during the COVID-19 pandemic: advancing expertise, managing effectively, and preventing the spread of the disease, while also supporting Ho Chi Minh City and establishing a COVID-19 Intensive Care Center in Vinh Long. Thanks to the correct orientation and operational strategy, the hospital has continued to perform many advanced techniques in liver transplantation, kidney transplantation, open-heart surgery, pediatric epilepsy surgery… Many new techniques in the field of clinical medicine have been developed and implemented.
In 2023, Vietnam National Children’s Hospital provided safe, quality, and specialized medical examination and treatment for nearly 1.2 million outpatient patients and 118 thousand inpatient patients. Management activities closely follow the actual situation and changes in disease patterns. The hospital’s professional quality continues to receive the trust of patients across the country. The hospital continuously develops and applies new, first-time high techniques in Vietnam, helping to treat many difficult and complex cases such as: placing subdural electrodes stimulation of cerebral cortex for two patients with drug-resistant epilepsy; the technique of corroding nerve and peripheral arteriovenous malformations through the intravenous route helps to completely cure arteriovenous malformations up to 85 – 90% without the need for radiotherapy or surgery, overcoming disadvantages of arteriovenous malformation. The hospital also performed and routinely introduced advanced techniques, including 311 dialysis cases; 1.088 open heart surgeries; 27 cases of stem cell transplantation, and 26 cases of organ transplantation.
Assoc.Prof. Tran Minh Dien has not only excellent in medical examination and management, he also been actively involved in training and guiding scientific research for postgraduate students and learners. Additionally, he has contributed significantly to scientific research projects at various levels, performing many practical works highly appreciated by colleagues domestically and internationally.
This year’s Vietnam Glory Program is organized to celebrate the 134th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s birth (May 19, 5 – May 1890, 19), which contributes to the promotion of learning and following the moral example and style of President Ho Chi Minh. The collectives and individuals honored at the program are “beautiful flowers,” representing tens of thousands of outstanding examples who dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to the construction of the country day by day.
