Mayo Clinic Experts Strengthen Professional Exchange and Share Treatment Experience at Vietnam National Children’s Hospital

On September 24–25, 2026, a delegation of 9 experts from Mayo Clinic, USA, visited and worked at Vietnam National Children’s Hospital (VNCH), sharing experience in the diagnosis, treatment, and care of pediatric patients across a range of specialized fields. The program further strengthened the longstanding collaboration between the two institutions and provided an opportunity for experts to exchange clinical experience through real patient cases.

Vietnam National Children’s Hospital and Mayo Clinic have maintained a collaborative relationship for many years, with a particular focus on key areas including critical care, respiratory medicine, infectious diseases, gastroenterology, endocrinology and metabolism, genetics, and pediatric neurological disorders.

On the morning of September 25, during the official meeting with the delegation, Dr. Phan Huu Phuc, M.D., Ph.D., Vice Director of Vietnam National Children’s Hospital, together with leaders of the Hospital’s specialized departments and centers, discussed training needs, clinical experience sharing, and potential directions for future professional collaboration. Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Phan Huu Phuc expressed his appreciation for the longstanding partnership between the two institutions. As the demands for the care, diagnosis, and treatment of children with complex conditions continue to increase, strengthening collaboration with multidisciplinary experts provides physicians with valuable opportunities to exchange experience and update their approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of complex diseases. Such cooperation contributes to improving patient care at the Hospital while also creating further opportunities for training and scientific research.

Speaking during the program, Dr. Yves Ouellette, M.D., Ph.D., who led the Mayo Clinic delegation, expressed his pleasure at having another opportunity to work alongside and exchange professional expertise with colleagues at Vietnam National Children’s Hospital. He emphasized that strong connections between experts from the two institutions provide an important foundation for greater experience sharing, enhanced training activities, and expanded collaboration in the future. He also expressed his hope that the partnership between the two institutions would continue to grow through professional exchange programs and further working visits in the years ahead.

During this visit, the Mayo Clinic experts conducted clinical rounds and discussed patient cases at the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Surgical Intensive Care Unit, Center of Endocrinology, Metabolism, Genetics and Molecular Therapy, Respiratory Center, and Department of Gastroenterology.

The Mayo Clinic delegation participates in a professional discussion at the Department of Gastroenterology.

Experts from both institutions analyze actual clinical cases and share their experience at the Respiratory Center.

The discussions focused on practical issues in critical care, cardiology, infectious diseases, gastroenterology, and other specialties. Joint analysis of clinical cases enabled experts and physicians from both institutions to exchange approaches to diagnosis, treatment planning, and appropriate care for children with complex medical conditions.

Experts exchange professional knowledge at the Center of Endocrinology, Metabolism, Genetics and Molecular Therapy.

The visit built upon a collaborative foundation developed over many years and contributed to further promoting training, clinical consultations, research, and the exchange of clinical experience between Vietnam National Children’s Hospital and Mayo Clinic. Experts from both institutions expressed their hope that professional exchange activities would continue to be maintained and further strengthened in the coming years.
