The Delegation from UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital (USA) Visiting Vietnam National Children’s Hospital

On the afternoon of February 21, 2025, Vietnam National Children’s Hospital warmly welcomed an expert delegation led by Prof. Dr. Vadiyala Mohan Reddy, Head of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital (USA). The delegation also included Prof. Dr. Hung Nguyen and Dr. Mark Cocalis. This visit aimed to facilitate discussions and implement future collaboration activities at the hospital, further strengthening international partnerships and enhancing the quality of pediatric cardiovascular care in Vietnam.

The reception was attended by Dr. Cao Viet Tung, Vice Director of the hospital, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ly Thinh Truong, Director of the Heart Center, along with department heads and other relevant officials.

Prof. Dr. Vadiyala Mohan Reddy is one of the world’s leading experts in pediatric cardiac surgery. He currently serves as the Head of the Department of Cardiac Surgery and Director of the Pediatric Cardiology Center at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital (USA). He is also a volunteer surgeon for Children’s HeartLink, a global non-profit organization supporting pediatric heart care.

UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital’s Cardiology Center is among the top pediatric heart centers worldwide, bringing together leading experts, offering high-quality treatment, state-of-the-art equipment, and a professional support team.

During this visit, Prof. Dr. Vadiyala Mohan Reddy expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome from Vietnam National Children’s Hospital and shared his appreciation for the significant progress made by the hospital’s Heart Center in recent years.

Speaking at the reception, Dr. Cao Viet Tung, Vice Director of Vietnam National Children’s Hospital, expressed his sincere gratitude to the leadership of UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital’s Cardiology Center for their ongoing support and collaboration. He also emphasized the hospital’s commitment to further strengthening the partnership, aiming to expand meaningful programs that will improve pediatric cardiac care in Vietnam.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ly Thinh Truong, Director of the Heart Center, also extended his appreciation to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital and expressed hope that this collaboration will continue to bring groundbreaking advancements in pediatric cardiology, ultimately benefiting children’s healthcare.

Prior to this visit, in November 2024, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ly Thinh Truong conducted a professional exchange at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital (USA) to discuss and develop expertise in Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (MICS). This advanced technique has been successfully applied at Vietnam National Children’s Hospital, saving over 1,400 children with congenital heart disease in recent years.

During the visit, the expert delegation also had the opportunity to observe the operating rooms at the hospital’s Heart Center. This experience allowed international specialists to directly engage with Vietnamese doctors and surgeons, sharing knowledge and best practices. The exchange further aims to enhance the professional expertise of medical staff at Vietnam National Children’s Hospital and improve the quality of care for children in Vietnam.

This visit marks another significant milestone in the long-standing collaboration between Vietnam National Children’s Hospital and UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital, paving the way for further advancements in pediatric cardiology in Vietnam. Through continued knowledge sharing, technology transfer, and medical training, both institutions are committed to improving pediatric heart care and saving the lives of children with congenital heart disease.
