Over two days (01–02 April 2026) in Dien Bien Province, Vietnam National Children’s Hospital dispatched a team of physicians and experts to deliver the training course “Basic Pediatric Life Support (PLS)” for doctors, nurses, and midwives working at district health centers, commune health stations, and the provincial general hospital. The program was conducted within the framework of the Ministry of Health’s technical direction activities and Project 1816, with the aim of strengthening pediatric emergency care capacity at the primary care level.

The course enrolled 28 trainees and was taught directly by six experts from the Vietnam National Children’s Hospital. The curriculum focused on essential skills, including early recognition, initial management, and emergency response to common pediatric emergencies. Lectures combined theory with simulation-based practice and case-based discussions, enabling trainees to develop rapid response skills and effective teamwork in real-world settings. In addition, trainees completed pre-course and post-course assessments and were awarded certificates upon course completion.

Trainees actively practiced key competencies such as management of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking), cardiopulmonary resuscitation for cardiac arrest, recognition of the critically ill child, approach to severe trauma, management of anaphylactic shock, decreased level of consciousness, seizures, and safe patient transport. Throughout the training, instructors and trainees frequently exchanged views, discussed scenarios, and addressed questions to consolidate knowledge and practical experience in emergency management. As a result, trainees improved their ability to respond proactively and safely to emergencies.

Dr. Le Ngoc Duy —Head of the Department of Emergency and Poison Control, Vietnam National Children’s Hospital—shared: “Pediatric emergency care requires rapid coordination, accuracy, and proficient practical skills. Therefore, the program not only provides professional knowledge but also helps trainees strengthen skills and be ready to respond effectively to pediatric emergencies in their local settings.”

The course left a strong impression of rigorous learning and a close connection between primary-level healthcare staff and leading experts. In his remarks, Dr. Vu Van Hai, MD (Senior Specialist)—Deputy Director of Dien Bien Provincial General Hospital—expressed sincere gratitude to the instructors from Vietnam National Children’s Hospital and highly appreciated the practical significance of the course in improving the quality of pediatric healthcare services in the province.
