Campus 2: a modern, specialized pediatric center

Vietnam National Children’s Hospital – Campus 2 broke ground in February 2023. With strong guidance and support from the Party, the State, the Ministry of Health, and local authorities—together with the efforts of the Hospital leadership and the construction contractor (DELTA Construction Group)—the project has now been completed safely and on schedule, with modern and well-equipped facilities.

Campus 2 is oriented to become a highly specialized, modern pediatric center applying advanced techniques comparable to regional standards, contributing to:

  • reducing overload at Campus 1, and
  • easing pressure on the capital’s healthcare system.

Scale and capacity

The project covers approximately 6 hectares, comprising four main buildings:

  • a 6-storey administrative block,
  • a 3-storey paraclinical block, and
  • two 5-storey inpatient treatment blocks,

along with supporting facilities and synchronized technical infrastructure.

Campus 2 has a capacity of 300 inpatient beds and is equipped with modern medical devices in accordance with Ministry of Health standards, with the ability to receive 1,000–1,500 outpatient visits per day.

On-site inspection of key departments

During the inspection, Minister Dao Hong Lan and the delegation reviewed multiple essential areas, including:

  • Outpatient Department,
  • Department of Emergency and 24-hour Treatment,
  • Neonatal and Intensive Care Department,
  • Diagnostic Imaging Department,
  • General Laboratory Department,
  • Department of Anesthesiology and Resuscitation,

as well as overall conditions to ensure readiness for patient services upon official opening.

Hospital readiness and operational model

In reporting to the delegation, Prof. Dr. Tran Minh Dien, Hospital Director, stated that throughout the Campus 2 implementation process, the Hospital received close support and coordination from the Ministry of Health, relevant units, and local authorities—particularly in completing infrastructure, ensuring security and public order, and preparing operational conditions.

The Hospital emphasized that Campus 2 will operate under a specialized pediatric hospital model, focusing on:

  • developing a high-quality workforce,
  • strengthening training, and
  • rotating staff between the two campuses to ensure consistent professional quality.

Minister’s direction

Minister Dao Hong Lan commended the Hospital’s proactive preparation and the plan to bring Campus 2 into operation in time for International Children’s Day (01/06/2026). The Minister highlighted the significance of this milestone in improving the quality of child healthcare and protection.

The Minister also requested that the Hospital:

  • continue implementation according to an appropriate roadmap,
  • ensure safety, effectiveness, and clinical quality, and
  • coordinate closely with relevant agencies and local authorities to complete transport infrastructure, security arrangements, and other conditions supporting patient care.

Representatives of the participating agencies also provided feedback and discussed technical infrastructure, operational management, and coordination mechanisms to ensure that Campus 2 operates safely, effectively, and in a synchronized manner.
