Vietnam National Children’s Hospital Welcomes Vietnam’s Honorary Consul in Nagoya and Japanese Cleft Palate Experts from JCPF

On 10 December 2025, Vietnam National Children’s Hospital warmly welcomed a delegation of experts from the Japanese Cleft Palate Foundation, led by Professor Dr. Nagato Natsume, Executive Director of JCPF and Vietnam’s Honorary Consul in Nagoya, Japan.

The working session was attended by the hospital’s leadership, representatives from the Department of ENT, and the International Cooperation Department.

At the opening of the programme, Professor Nagato Natsume shared reflections from over 40 years of experience in the field of cleft lip and palate, covering genetic research, reconstructive surgery, post-operative care, and functional rehabilitation. He also discussed his work in developing clinical management systems, training medical professionals, and enhancing hospital infection control — a priority of the World Health Organization (WHO) in many Asian countries.

According to both Japanese practice and global experiences, Professor Natsume expressed his desire to foster cooperation with Vietnam National Children’s Hospital in areas such as workforce training, infection surveillance and prevention, and building robust patient safety systems to protect both healthcare workers and patients.

Professor Tran Minh Dien, Director, welcomed the delegation and outlined recent achievements, including advanced procedures in liver and kidney transplantation, stem cell therapies, and complex neonatal surgery. He highlighted the hospital’s ongoing efforts in medical risk management and pilot implementation of professional liability insurance for clinicians to prevent adverse events and safeguard patient welfare.

Looking toward the period 2026–2030, the hospital reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening key clinical areas, expanding international cooperation, enhancing training capacity, and upgrading infrastructure — priorities that align with JCPF’s goals of raising clinical standards and training healthcare personnel.

Both parties also identified priority areas for collaboration, particularly in cleft lip and palate care, including surgical training and technology transfer, post-operative care and rehabilitation, speech therapy for children with communication disorders, as well as epidemiological, genetic, and clinical research, and joint academic publications.

The working session concluded in an open and cooperative atmosphere, with mutual recognition of promising prospects for cooperation in education, research, infection control, and the treatment of children with cleft lip and palate.

In the afternoon, Professor Nagato Natsume held further discussions with the Japanese Ambassador to Viet Nam to introduce opportunities for collaboration with Vietnam National Children’s Hospital, aiming to open new avenues for bilateral development in the coming years.
