Vietnam National Children’s Hospital and Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital: Discussing Cooperation Directions and Promoting the Development of Advanced Pediatric Specialties

On the morning of March 2, 2026, Vietnam National Children’s Hospital warmly welcomed a delegation of experts from Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital (Korea). The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange professional experiences and discuss future directions for collaboration, aiming to advance specialized fields in pediatrics.

The delegation from Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital included professors and leaders responsible for neurology, pediatric hematology–oncology, and international cooperation, as well as representatives of the patient support team for Vietnamese patients and representatives from the Office of Science and Technology of the Embassy of Vietnam in Korea. Representing Vietnam National Children’s Hospital were members of the hospital’s Board of Directors and leaders from several departments and centers, including the Oncology Center, Neurology Center, Stem Cell Center, Department of Clinical Hematology, and the International Cooperation Department.

In his welcome remarks, Dr. Phan Huu Phuc, MD, PhD – Vice Director of Vietnam National Children’s Hospital, expressed his pleasure and honor in receiving the expert delegation from Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital. Dr. Phan Huu Phuc emphasized the importance of establishing and expanding cooperation between the two institutions. In the context of rapidly advancing modern medicine, international collaboration and the sharing of knowledge and expertise play a crucial role in enhancing healthcare capacity and providing more specialized treatment for pediatric patients.

During the meeting, representatives from both sides introduced the functions, missions, strengths, and development orientations of their respective hospitals. They also expressed their shared interest in strengthening cooperation in areas such as human resource training, expert exchange, scientific research, and professional support for complex clinical cases. The two hospitals agreed to promote collaboration in key areas including training for doctors and nurses, technology transfer, academic and expert exchanges, joint scientific research, and the application of medical advances in diagnosis and treatment—particularly in leading specialties such as pediatric hematology–oncology and stem cell therapy.

Notably, later the same afternoon, representatives from the two hospitals held a meeting with the Department of Science, Technology and Training of the Ministry of Health of Vietnam to discuss future directions for cooperation.

Dr. Nguyen Ngo Quang – Director General of the Department of Science, Technology and Training (Ministry of Health) suggested that the two hospitals focus their cooperation on three main pillars: training, scientific research, and technology transfer. In particular, Vietnamese medical staff could participate in both short-term and long-term training programs as well as online workshops. At the same time, the two sides should strengthen multicenter and multinational research, which is considered highly promising given the strong qualifications of Vietnamese physicians and their extensive experience in managing diverse disease patterns.

In the long term, technology transfer is expected to become a key objective, helping people in both countries benefit from modern medical advances, including the community of approximately 300,000 Korean residents currently living in Hanoi. The Director General also affirmed that the Ministry of Health would support appropriate resources to facilitate these collaborative activities.

The meeting demonstrated the strong interest, consensus, and support from regulatory authorities for international cooperation in the healthcare sector, creating a favorable foundation for the two hospitals to further strengthen their connection and collaboration in the future.
