Two children with complex epilepsy have made remarkable recoveries just six days after undergoing deep brain surface electrode placement surgery for the first time in Vietnam. With the assistance of seven specialists from Children’s Hospital Alabama in the United States, the doctors at the Central Pediatric Hospital performed successful surgeries for these two children with drug-resistant complex epilepsy. This advanced procedure was executed in Vietnam for the first time, following nearly two years of preparation by the hospital’s medical staff, led by Dr. Le Nam Thang.
The story of 6-year-old N.N.M., who had 50-100 seizures per day, and 5-year-old H.T., who suffered from cortical dysplasia, has resulted in a significant emotional impact and inspiration for many parents. Post-surgery children are now healthy, active, and seizure-free, bringing immense happiness to their families.
Their mother, Chị Trang, expressed her gratitude for the medical team and the transformation of her children’s lives. The rapid and miraculous recovery filled the medical staff with joy and relief, and Dr. Le Nam Thang, who conducted the surgeries, praised the children’s remarkable progress. He noted that they will continue to monitor the children’s recovery, hoping they will soon be able to attend school and lead everyday lives, thanking Dr. Brandon Rocque from Children’s Hospital Alabama for their collaboration in advancing this field in Vietnam.
