Taking Paediatrics Abroad (TPA) cooperating with Vietnam National Children’s Hospital to strengthen health workforce capacity

On 29th of August, Vietnam National Children’s Hospital welcomed Associate Professor Dr. Kathryn Curow – CEO and the founder of Taking Paediatrics Abroad, and Dr. Caroline Fox – the first volunteer of the organization to visit and exchange opportunities in field of pediatrics such as Endocrinology, Nephrology, Emergency, Respiratory and so on.

Taking Pediatrics Abroad (TPA) is an international partnership between Australian volunteer pediatricians and doctors, nurses and health professionals in Asia-Pacific countries in order to share knowledge and practice in pediatric care and help prevent and control disease, which create a brighter future for children and adolescents. The list countries include: Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Tonga, Fiji, Samoa, Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Cambodia, Vietnam and Mongolia.

On February 2023, Vietnam National Children’s Hospital and Taking Pediatrics Abroad signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with a term of 5 years on face-to-face and online training, connecting experts with the National Children’s Hospital; online consultation for complex cases; support in writing and publishing international articles; support doctors and nurses to study in Australia.

PhD.Dr. Cao Viet Tung – Vice Director of Vietnam National Children’s Hospital sent his deep thanks to the two experts who have always supported medical staff at the hospital in recent times. PhD.Dr. Cao Viet Tung said: “National Vietnam Children’s hospital the leading pediatric hospital in Vietnam.  Currently, our hospital has about 4,000 outpatient pediatric patients and 2,000 inpatient pediatric patients with many complicated diseases every day. One of the most important functions is training for lower-level medical staff and providing remote professional support. We hope that it will have more cooperation opportunities with Taking Pediatrics Abroad in the near future, which contribute to improve the professional capacity of medical staff, as well as expand cooperation in research and training”.

Assoc.Prof Kathryn Currow expressed admiration for the achievements of Vietnam National Children’s Hospital. She has strong belief that the cooperation will help doctors and nurses of NCH to access to the best practices and knowledge in the field of pediatrics, contributing to the quality of health care for children in Vietnam.
