From August 27 to September 6, 2025, a delegation of experts from Children’s of Alabama Hospital, USA, led by Professor Brandon G. Rocque, visited and collaborated with Vietnam National Children’s Hospital. As part of their mission, the delegation donated state-of-the-art medical equipment and engaged in specialized professional exchanges with the hospital’s Neurology Center. On the morning of August 27, the Hospital held an official ceremony to receive the newly donated devices.
Attending the ceremony from Vietnam National Children’s Hospital were: Associate Professor Dr. Pham Duy Hien, Vice Director; Dr. Cao Vu Hung, Director of the Neurology Center; and Dr. Le Nam Thang, Deputy Director of the Neurology Center and Head of the Neurosurgery Department, along with representatives from relevant departments. Representing Children’s of Alabama Hospital were Prof. Brandon G. Rocque, Prof. Pongkiat Kankirawatana, Mr. Donald Thomas King III, and Ms. Lisa Steed, a physical therapy specialist.
Since 2016, Vietnam National Children’s Hospital and Children’s of Alabama Hospital have maintained a bilateral professional partnership. Through this collaboration, the Neurology Center at Vietnam National Children’s Hospital has successfully performed multiple complex epilepsy surgeries—including pioneering procedures such as the placement of subdural surface electrodes and creation of seizure mapping in Vietnam-as a result of expert support. Beyond surgical advances, the Alabama team has previously donated advanced medical equipment and organized both domestic and international training courses, significantly improving the professional skills of the hospital’s medical staff.
During this visit, experts exchanged professional insights on managing refractory epilepsy and movement disorders in children with cerebral palsy, and provided guidance on surgical practices at the hospital. Notably, the Alabama team donated a 256-channel video electroencephalography (EEG) system, along with other medical equipment, to Vietnam National Children’s Hospital.
At the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Duy Hien extended sincere gratitude for the invaluable support from Children’s of Alabama Hospital. He pledged to put the donated equipment to efficient use and expressed hope for continued and robust cooperation in the future, for the sake of advancing pediatric healthcare in Vietnam.
