Expanding Traditional Medicine Research and Training Cooperation with Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine

On the morning of May 19, 2025, Vietnam National Children’s Hospital (VNCH) welcomed a delegation of Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine (China), marking the beginning of promising collaborative opportunities in traditional medicine research and training for pediatric healthcare.

The delegation’s visit to VNCH aimed to strengthen cooperation in the application of traditional medicine.

Established in 1954 in Jiangsu Province, Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine (NUCM) is a pioneering institution in undergraduate education in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). The university is internationally recognized for its leadership in TCM research and training, enrolling around 20,000 students annually and employing more than 2,000 faculty members. NUCM offers programs ranging from undergraduate to doctoral levels and serves as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Traditional Medicine.

During the working session, Professor Zhao Xia, Vice President of NUCM, introduced the university’s scale, strengths, and notable achievements. With a strong emphasis on international collaboration, NUCM has trained over 30,000 international students and built partnerships with more than 90 universities worldwide, including many students from Vietnam.

Representatives from VNCH and NUCM discussed potential avenues for future cooperation.

Dr. Phan Huu Phuc, Vice Director of VNCH, extended his sincere gratitude to the visiting delegation and proposed several strategic directions for cooperation, particularly in integrating traditional and modern medicine. Dr. Phuc expressed hope that this collaboration would enhance VNCH’s research and training capacity, ultimately improving healthcare services for children.

Following the meeting, the NUCM delegation toured several specialized departments at VNCH, including the Department of Traditional Medicine, the Oncology Center, and the Stem Cell Center. These visits laid the groundwork for future joint activities and deeper institutional cooperation.
