Enhancing International Cooperation to Improve the Quality of Child Healthcare at Vietnam National Children’s Hospital

The long-term goal of international cooperation of Vietnam National Children’s Hospital is to build a high-quality team of doctors, continually update advanced global techniques, and thereby develop human resources for the hospital and pediatrics in Vietnam. Thus, the hospital actively expands and maintains sustainable international partnerships. Last week, from October 21 to October 28, 2024, the hospital worked with four foreign expert groups.

1. Strengthening Professional Exchange with Experts from Children’s HeartLink Organization (USA)

From October 21 to 25, 2024, the hospital welcomed experts from Children’s HeartLink Organization (USA) to the Heart Center for professional exchanges. The two sides began cooperation in 2017 and have developed an extensive relationship in cardiology. During the visit, the hospital’s cardiology team received shared experiences and updates on treating complex cases, including cardiovascular surgery, interventional cardiology, and post-operative cardiac pediatric care. This cooperation has contributed to improving the quality of diagnosis and treatment for many pediatric patients with cardiovascular issues.

2. Collaboration with Belgian Experts to Bridge Gaps in Mental Health Care for Children and Adolescents

Within the framework of Project 1.5, “Clinical Supervision and Training for Psychologists and Mental Health Professionals in Vietnam,” a team from Belgium’s Léonard de Vinci School of Vocational Training visited the hospital on October 21, 2024. This annual project activity provides training for doctors and parents in psychology.

Both sides plan to continue developing training strategies and medical intervention plans to improve healthcare and mental health outcomes for children and adolescents treated at the hospital.

In appreciation, both sides exchanged meaningful commemorative gifts.

3. Welcoming Experts from AIP Foundation

On October 25, 2024, Professor Roberto De Castro, former Head of Surgery at Maggiore Children’s Hospital and leader of AIP Foundation’s delegation, praised the longstanding collaboration in urology between the two organizations and looked forward to future joint programs.

Dr. Phan Huu Phuc, Vice Director of the hospital, expressed gratitude for AIP’s continued support, emphasizing the hospital’s focus on developing high-quality human resources. Learning from AIP’s top experts provides young doctors with invaluable opportunities to enhance their professional skills and gain experience.

The two organizations hope to continue their partnership to further improve healthcare quality for Vietnamese children.

4. Support from VinaCapital Foundation (VCF) for Children with Cancer and Psychological Issues

The VinaCapital Foundation (VCF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating health and education solutions to change the lives of disadvantaged children and women in Vietnam. In previous years, VCF provided training programs and funding assistance for children with cardiac conditions.

This time, both sides discussed specific support procedures for underprivileged children with cancer and consultation on a psychosocial support program for children and their families. VCF also expressed its willingness to help the hospital improve its capacity, treatment techniques for childhood cancer, and infrastructure and equipment.

With the determination to advance to a level on par with countries with advanced medical fields, Vietnam National Children’s Hospital will continue to promote international cooperation in various forms, helping Vietnamese children access better healthcare conditions.
