From September 2-6, 2025, the 15th International Congress of Inborn Errors of Metabolism (ICIEM 2025) was successfully held at the Kyoto International Conference Center in Japan. The event attracted 2,089 participants, including scientists, healthcare professionals, and researchers from various countries. It featured 1,240 presentations from different continents, representing associations focused on metabolic disorders: SSIEM (Society for the Study of Inborn Errors of Metabolism), SIMD (Society for Inherited Metabolic Diseases, USA), ASIMD (Asian Society for Inherited Metabolic Disorders), and LASIEM (Latin American Society for Inborn Errors of Metabolism).

This is the largest scientific event globally in the field of inborn errors of metabolism, featuring a comprehensive program including keynote lectures, specialized workshops, and updates on significant advances such as gene therapy, gene editing, newborn screening, and artificial intelligence applications in medicine.
At this year’s conference, the medical team from Vietnam’s National Children’s Hospital made a strong impression:
- Dr. Đỗ Thị Thanh Mai – Center for Endocrinology, Metabolism, Genetics, and Molecular Therapy – was awarded the Young Presenter Award for the Asia region.

- Dr. Nguyễn Thu Hà – Center for Endocrinology, Metabolism, Genetics, and Molecular Therapy – received the Poster Presentation Award at the 6th International Congress on Urea Cycle Disorders (2025), a field of significant clinical value.

Additionally, many of the research projects from the Vietnam’s National Children’s Hospital were cited by international experts, highlighting the recognition of Vietnam’s scientific contributions in this specialized field.
Center for Endocrinology – Metabolism – Genetics and Molecular Therapy: The Leading National Unit
As the national leading center, the Center for Endocrinology, Metabolism, Genetics, and Molecular therapy at Vietnam’s National Children’s Hospital is the primary facility for diagnosing and treating a large number of children with rare and complex endocrine, metabolic, and genetic disorders in Vietnam.
The center brings together highly skilled experts and doctors who regularly participate in training, research, and international collaborations. Advanced techniques such as expanded newborn screening, molecular genetic analysis, enzyme replacement therapy, and gene therapy have been implemented, helping many children be diagnosed early and receive timely treatment, improving their quality of life.
Beyond treatment, the Center also plays a significant role in training specialized personnel, transferring technology to lower-level health facilities, and actively engaging in research published in prestigious international journals.
The recognition of the doctors from the Center for Endocrinology – Metabolism – Genetics and Molecular Therapy at the ICIEM 2025 once again affirms the hospital’s professional expertise, academic reputation, and strong international integration. This is also an opportunity to expand cooperation and connect with top global experts, aiming to enhance the effectiveness of diagnosis, treatment, and research in the field of inborn errors of metabolism. Ultimately, this will contribute to earlier diagnosis, more effective treatment, and an improved quality of life for children in Vietnam.
