Delegation of REI (USA) nursing experts works with the Vietnam National Children’s Hospital, promoting capacity building in pediatric nursing

On 25 March 2026, Vietnam National Children’s Hospital welcomed an international nursing expert delegation from REI (USA) as part of a cooperation program running through 27 March.

The delegation included Dr. Jessica Oliver—Teaching Assistant Professor at the Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing, University of California, Irvine, specializing in pediatric nursing (post-operative care, home care, and end-of-life care for adults); Dr. Shelly Burke—Clinical Assistant Professor at the Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing, University of California, Irvine; and Ms. Tran Phuong Lien—Head Representative of Resource Exchange International (REI) in Viet Nam.

At the working session, Dr. Cao Viet Tung, MD—Deputy Director of the Hospital—emphasized the pivotal role of nursing in clinical care and expressed the expectation of continued professional support from international partners to further improve the quality of pediatric nursing care.

The REI experts highly appreciated the collaborative spirit and professionalism of the Hospital’s healthcare workforce, and noted that this was an opportunity for both sides to learn from one another and to develop care solutions that are appropriate for real-world conditions in Viet Nam.

On the first working day, the delegation conducted field visits to several key units, including Specialty Outpatient Clinics, the Department of Emergency and Poison Control, the Surgical Intensive Care Unit, and the Department of Orthopedics. Through these visits, both sides engaged in professional exchange and aligned the training contents with practical needs.

On the same day, the Hospital also launched the training course “Early Recognition – Appropriate Care – Safety for Children,” with broad participation from nurses nationwide. The course focuses on quality improvement, early warning scoring systems, and principles of safe care, thereby strengthening capacity in handling clinical situations.

The Hospital will continue to update the program’s contents in subsequent follow-up communications.
