From 18th to 20th of July 2023, Vietnam National Children’s Hospital welcomed a delegation of lecturers and students from Teikyo University (Japan) led by Professor Shoji Kawachi to visit and study infectious diseases in Vietnam. It is one of activities of the cooperative research and medical human resources training program between Vietnam National Children and Teikyo University.
Teikyo University is one of Japan’s leading medical universities in the field of infectious diseases. Since 2018, Vietnam National Children’s Hospital and Teikyo University have signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate in training and scientific research, which marked a close and sustainable cooperation between the two sides. The goal is to train high-quality human resources in order to enhance the quality of medical examination and treatment and people’s health care.
“We are very pleased to visit and study at Vietnam National Children’s Hospital again. It is a great opportunity for our final-year medical students to learn about infectious diseases of children in Vietnam. All of our students are very excited to participate in this course” – Professor Shoji Kawachi said at the opening ceremony.
Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tran Minh Dien – Director of Vietnam National Children’s Hospital also said that NCH is the leading pediatric hospital under the management of Ministry of Health. With the aim at international standards, the hospital provided many optimal solutions in children’s health care. The key strategies of the hospital include training, improving the quality of expertise and services as well as updating world-class medical technology.
In recent years, Vietnam National Children’s Hospital and Teikyo University have exchanged cooperation programs in training and research. Teikyo University sends groups of final-year medical students to NCH or participate in online courses organized by Vietnam National Children’s Hospital every year. Besides, NCH also sent a number of doctors and nurses to participate in short-term training courses or postgraduate education at Teikyo University.
At this course, the delegation of lecturers and students of Teikyo University visited and studied directly at 08 clinical departments of NCH, including: Department of Molecular Biology of Infectious Diseases, Department of Emergency and Poison Control, Internal Medicine Intensive Treatment Department, Surgical Intensive Treatment Department, Neonatal Center, Respiratory Center, Heart Center, Infectious Disease Center.
At the closing ceremony, the lecturers and students of Teikyo University highly appreciated the practicality of the lessons that doctors of Vietnam National Children’s Hospital shared throughout the course. It helped students to see a diverse picture of infectious diseases in Vietnamese children and treatment at Vietnam National Children’s Hospital. At the same time, the Japanese lecturers and students at the course will also have a scientific basis in researching, diagnosing and treating infectious diseases.
The success of the training course demonstrates that Vietnam National Children’s Hospital is gradually integrating with the world in field of pediatric training. We hope that the two sides will maintain and deepen the relationship in the coming time.
