Delegation from KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital – Singapore Visiting and Collaborating with Vietnam National Children’s Hospital

On the morning of March 11, Vietnam National Children’s Hospital (VNCH) had the honor of welcoming representatives from KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital – Singapore (KKH) for a working visit, opening up opportunities for collaboration in various fields, particularly in pediatric oncology.

Established in 1858, KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital is one of Singapore’s leading medical institutions specializing in obstetrics, gynecology, pediatrics, and neonatology. With a team of top experts and state-of-the-art medical equipment, KKH has strengths in neonatal care, the treatment of complex pediatric diseases, pediatric surgery, and women’s healthcare. In 2021, KKH established the SingHealth Duke-NUS Maternal and Child Health Research Institute (MCHRI), focusing on research and the implementation of initiatives in maternal and child health.

Welcoming the delegation, Dr. Phan Huu Phuc, Vice Director of Vietnam National Children’s Hospital, expressed great honor and delight at KKH’s interest in VNCH and pediatric oncology. He also provided an overview of VNCH’s functions, responsibilities, human resources—particularly in nursing—and its significant achievements in medical treatment, training, and scientific research. VNCH’s core strengths include liver, kidney, and bone marrow transplantation, congenital heart surgery, cancer treatment, intensive care, and the management of rare genetic disorders.

The meeting took place in an open and friendly atmosphere, with both hospitals engaging in discussions on key areas of collaboration:

  • Clinical Exchange and Training: A cooperative program aimed at enhancing expertise and building specialized capabilities.
  • Research and Innovation: Joint research initiatives to improve clinical expertise and patient outcomes.
  • Telemedicine and Expert Consultation: Establishing a collaborative framework for remote clinical discussions, medical consultations, and knowledge-sharing.
  • Quality, Safety, and Risk Management Initiatives: Developing, identifying, and training on patient safety methods, service quality, and clinical outcomes.

Ms. Judith Wee, Deputy Director of the Strategic Partnerships and Global Health Office, International Development & Cooperation at KKH, shared insights into the collaborative initiatives that KKH aims to implement.

The meeting concluded with promising prospects for collaboration aimed at enhancing the expertise of medical professionals, advancing specialized fields, and, most importantly, improving pediatric oncology treatment—a discipline with high incidence and mortality rates. With the support of leading experts and a commitment to excellence, Vietnam National Children’s Hospital continues to affirm its position, striving to bring better health and a brighter future to Vietnamese children.
