On the afternoon of 16 March 2026, the Training and Research Institute for Child Health – Vietnam National Children’s Hospital organized a scientific session on the topic “Identification and Management of Intellectual Property Assets.” The program was attended by scientists and a large number of physicians and other healthcare professionals engaged in scientific research at the Hospital.

The scientific session provided a range of useful information on identifying, protecting, and managing intellectual property assets in the Hospital.
In her opening remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Trang Nhung—Deputy Director of the Training and Research Institute for Child Health—stated that, in the context of the healthcare sector’s increasing focus on the development of science and technology and innovation, identifying and managing intellectual property assets is of major importance for scientific research and for real-world clinical practice. In recent years, Vietnam National Children’s Hospital has implemented numerous scientific research projects, technical improvement initiatives, and valuable professional solutions. However, in practice, some departments, offices, and centers still face difficulties in identifying and classifying intellectual products generated from professional activities. Therefore, this scientific session aimed to help healthcare staff better understand the procedures for registration, protection, and management of intellectual property assets.

At the program, Mr. Trinh Thu Hai, MSc—Deputy Director of the Research, Training and Support Center, Consulting Division under the Intellectual Property Office—delivered a lecture titled “Identification, Protection, and Commercial Exploitation of Intellectual Assets in Hospitals.” The lecture explained the concept and importance of intellectual property in scientific research activities, highlighting the cycle of innovation, registration for protection, and exploitation of intellectual property rights. Proper identification and protection of innovative outputs help safeguard research achievements and create conditions for scientific results to be further developed and applied in practice.

Regarding methods of protection, scientific research results can be safeguarded through various forms such as: copyright, patents or utility models, industrial designs, trade secrets, and trademarks. Each form has its own distinct characteristics, criteria, scope, duration of protection, and particular significance.
In addition, Mr. Trinh Thu Hai, MSc addressed the commercial exploitation of intellectual assets in the field of medical examination and treatment. When research outcomes are appropriately registered and protected, they may be transferred, applied in practice, or developed into products and solutions serving clinical care, thereby increasing the value of scientific research within the Hospital. The expert also emphasized strengthening the management of intellectual property assets to establish a mechanism for the effective management, protection, and exploitation of scientific research outcomes at the Vietnam National Children’s Hospital.

Participants engaged in active discussion with the expert on matters related to the registration of initiatives for protection, the management of research outcomes, and the exploitation of intellectual assets within the Hospital.
Through this scientific session, healthcare staff at Vietnam National Children’s Hospital gained additional knowledge to identify intellectual creative outputs in professional activities, better understand the regulations of the Law on Intellectual Property, delineate the rights and obligations of individuals and units, and grasp basic steps in registering for protection, managing, and exploiting scientific research outcomes. This activity also contributes to promoting innovation and enhancing the effective use of scientific achievements in the care and protection of children’s health.
